Junior Paramore scored two of Gloucester's four tries as the Cherry and Whites
got their Heineken Cup campaign off to a flying start in Italy.
The veteran Samoan No.8 was named man of the match for his all action
performance as Gloucester recorded a relatively comfortable victory against the
Italian champions, securing a bonus point in the process.
The home side suggested they would give Nigel Melville and Dean Ryan's men a
sterner test in an error-ridden first half, which saw Gloucester lead by just
three points at the break.
But Gloucester, without firing on all cylinders, scored two unanswered second
half tries to put the seal on a job well done at Stadio di Monigo.
A sensational try from England wing James Simpson-Daniel lit up a first half
which was never short of drama.
Tommaso Visentin scored under Gloucester's posts after Francois Smith had cut
the Gloucester defence open, but the visitors, despite losing Thinus Delport to
the sin bin for preventing the release at a ruck, hit back in style.
Simpson-Daniel may have been left out of England's World Cup squad, but he
provided a glimpse of the national team's future when he received the ball
inside his own 22, beat almost everyone in the Treviso side, and went over in
the corner.
Treviso regained the lead when Gonzalo Canale beat Simpson-Daniel to
Alessandro Troncon's probing kick ahead, hacked the ball on himself and dived on
it to score.
But straight from the kick-off Paramore pounced to give Gloucester the half
time advantage.
Two penalties from Henry Paul early in the second period cemented Gloucester's
lead, before Paramore's second try, which followed more good work from
Simpson-Daniel, sealed the victory.
The changes came thick and fast as the fog set in and plucky Treviso tired,
and despite threatening on occasions, Gloucester's defence was rarely seriously
troubled.
There was even time for replacement lock Adam Eustace to run in a final-minute
try from 30 metres to seal what could prove what could prove to be a crucial
bonus point when it comes to deciding who qualifies from Pool Five.
