Scottish fly-half Duncan Hodge weighed in with a 24 point personal haul as
Leeds took Leicester's losing streak to three consecutive games at Headingley.
The hosts fought back from 15-9 down at the break against a Tigers team who
played threequarters of the game with 14 men, after the early dismissal of lock
James Hamilton.
Tigers had taken the lead after only two minutes when full back Luke Myring
struck a penalty from 40 metres.
But the 19-year-old was to leave the field less than mid-way through the first
half with injury, being replaced by veteran Tim Stimpson.
The visitors were enjoying the better of possession and territory in the early
exchanges and when 19-year-old open side Will Skinner - in the team for late
ankle injury victim Josh Kronfeld - charged down a midfield clearance punt from
the Tykes, only a slightly mistimed hack forward preventing a second try.
Fly-half Sam Vesty missed a penalty from just right of the posts before
Stimpson's arrival onto the pitch, but the scores were level on 14 minutes when
Hodge slotted an easy penalty.
With less than a quarter of the game gone Leicester found themselves reduced
to 14 men, referee Dave Pearson giving a straight red card to 20-year-old
Hamilton for an indiscretion at a ruck.
Only minutes later, Hodge nudged the Tykes ahead with a second penalty, but
even with one player less on the field, Leicester suddenly found some
penetration - for a brief spell anyway.
Vesty scoring the visitors' opening try on the 20-minute mark after a midfield
break from Stimpson saw centre Ollie Smith execute a flip pass down the right
wing, the fly half bulldozing over the line.
Stimpson missed the conversion but Tigers added to their tally four minutes
later when Skinner hacked on a loose ball from 30 metres out and touched down
under the posts, Stimpson this time adding the extras. Hodge missed a penalty,
but kicked one before the interval while two missed drop goals from Vesty kept
the half time score to 15-9 in favour of the visitors.
Leeds came out fired up for the second half and only seconds after
Christophers was stopped just short, number eight Dan Hyde barrelled over for
Leeds' opening try from close range.
Hodge converted for them to take a one-point lead, and added a penalty soon
after.
Stimpson struck a 40-metre penalty to get Leicester within a point, but they
were soon further behind after a massive punt by Hodge got Leeds right in the
Leicester corner.
George Chuter overthrew at the lineout, leaving Tykes open side James Ponton
to gather the loose ball and touchdown for an easy try, Hodge missing the
conversion.
Hodge added his fifth penalty from in front of the posts and Leeds' increasing
width eventually got them a second try after a 30-metre run from wing David Rees
saw Tim Walsh lay on a scoring pass for replacement fullback Matt Cardey.
Hodge missed the conversion but more than made up for it right on the final
whistle when he made a dart for the line from the 22 stepping his way under the
posts for a well taken try.
His conversion rounded off a productive afternoon for the West Yorkshire men,
while Leicester still search in vain for their winning form.
