Young full-back Jon Goodridge scored two tries as Gloucester secured a
bonus-point victory at home to Saracens.
Last season's Zurich Premiership table-toppers and Powergen Cup champions
cameto life after only a steady start to the current campaign with a four-try
triumph at Kingsholm.
Gloucester centre Henry Paul broke the deadlock with a 12th-minute penalty,
and 22-year-old Academy product Goodridge then finished off a superb team effort
by the hosts.
Returning to action for the first time this season, England International
James Simpson-Daniel got the move going. Then forward trio Julian Paramore, Alex
Brown and Jake Boer set up Goodridge who darted up field on the left wing to
score.
Paul converted and then added a second penalty to seal the 13-point advantage
at the break.
Saracens bounced back after the break, with former All Blacks skipper Taine
Randell over the line after lock Kris Chesney won a crucial line-out.
Fly-half Andy Goode converted, but Saracens' challenge was soon over when
Goodridge scored his second try.
This time the youngster had his forward colleagues to thank for putting
Saracens under pressure.
After failing to break down the Saracens defence under the posts, Gloucester
spread the ball out to the right wing with Robert Todd finally offloaded to
awaiting Goodridge.
Paul missed the conversion, but Simpson-Daniel kept the score ticking over
with a try minutes later.
The winger, who narrowly missed out on a place in Clive Woodward's World Cup
squad, finished off the running for Todd who had charged up field after
interrupting a Saracens pass.
Saracens' afternoon got even worse with the double sin-binning of forwards
Chesney and Ryan Peacey - and with Gloucester super sub James Forrester also
crashing over the try line the game was well and truly out of reach for the
visitors.
