Wasps finished off what they started six days ago at Adams Park with a
sensational 27-12 victory over Parker Pen Challenge Cup favourites Stade
Francais at the Stade Jaenbouin.
What was surprising about the manner of this victory was that the visitors had
very little setpiece ball.
But the visitors will take great pride in keeping Stade scoreless, something
they were unable to achieve at home.
Diego Dominguez opened the scoring for the home side after only four minutes
and, although Alex King quickly responded to the visitors, Dominguez was on
target yet again after 12 minutes to put his side ahead for the second time.
However after a quarter of an hour the match swung Wasps' way when Rob Howley
and Paul Volley combined to put Fraser Waters away after Kenny Logan had
initially opened the home defence up with a 40 metre run.
Dominguez restored the home lead with a penalty mid-way through the half but
the game was to change dramatically four minutes later when Kenny Logan ran in
from 65 metres after intercepting a poor pass from Stephan Glas. King converted
to put Wasps 15-9 ahead and the Paris crowd were stunned by the score.
Logan added a 42 metre penalty just minutes later and the half ended on a high
for the visitors with a King penalty which sent them in 12 points ahead on the
night at 21-9 but also 25 points clear on aggregate.
Although Dominguez scored an early penalty for the home side in the second
period Logan and King added further penalties to ensure that Wasps go through to
the Parker Pen Cup semi-finals.
