Wasps will take a commanding lead into the second leg of their Parker Pen
Challenge Cup second round tie against Bordeaux after scoring six tries at Adams
Park.
Fly-half Alex King also kicked five conversions and a penalty and was the
victim of an illegal tackle which saw the home side awarded a penalty try.
King opened up the scoring in the 10th minute with a penalty inside Bordeaux's
22, but the equaliser came just a minute later with a close-range penalty from
full-back Richard Dourthe.
Prop Craig Dowd scored the first try in the 21st minute and King converted
before Welsh referee Gareth Simmonds awarded the penalty try seven minutes
later, King again converting.
Wasps' skipper Lawrence Dallaglio added to the woes of the French side in the
34th minute with a try from a rolling maul, allowing King to convert yet again.
Trying hard to get back into the game, Dourthe kicked his second successful
penalty of the afternoon in the 45th minute, but Wasps' forwards created a try
for lock Simon Shaw.
For once King was off target with the conversion but Dourthe was then
sin-binned following an illegal obstruction of Paul Volley.
Mark van Gisbergen and Stuart Abbott added late tries, both converted by King,
to make next week's second leg little more than a formality.
