Sale Sharks won their first away match of the season against an injury-hit
London Wasps in monsoon-like conditions at Adams Park.
Wasps fly-half Alex King opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a
penalty kick but the equaliser came just four minutes later from the boot of
Sharks' scrum-half Nick Walshe.
King pushed the home side ahead again with another successful penalty in the
14th minute and he converted three minutes later after winger Shane Roiser had
made a five-metre dart to place the ball down.
The visitors struggled but in the 24th minute Walshe kicked a much-needed
three points with another successful penalty.
Sharks lock Dean Schofield placed the ball down to score a try in the 33rd
minute to put the pressure on the home side, leaving a deficit of just two
points.
Just three minutes into the second half lock Chris Jones put Sale into the
lead as he sneaked past the unsuspecting Wasps defence, his try converted by
Walshe. Five minutes later Wasps narrowed the gap with a penalty from Mark van
Gisbergen.
The Sale revival continued in the 52nd minute when winger Steve Hanley got to
a flying loose ball to run through a try, again converted by Walshe.
Wasps battled on with more fine kicking by van Gisbergen but the damage was
done in the 73rd minute when winger Mark Cueto scored a try improved by Walshe,
completely destroying the morale of the home side.
