Wasps struggled to victory against injury-hit Saracens at Vicarage Road
on Sunday.
The home side opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a long-range
penalty kick from centre Kevin Sorrell.
In the 14th minute Sorrell, just outside Wasps' 22 metre line, chalked up
another three points from a penalty and then kicked a third in the 28th minute.
Things got worse for Wasps when hooker Phil Greening, making his first start
since December, had to be replaced by Samoan Trevor Leota and when winger Kenny
Logan pushed his penalty to the right of the upright they trailed 9-0 at
half-time.
However, in the 43rd minute Logan finally opened Wasps' account with a
thundering penalty kick from close to the halfway line.
Worries set in for Sarries in the 55th minute when prop Luke Harbut was
stretchered off, replaced by Pierre Durant and moments later flanker Joe Worsley
eased the pressure for Wasps with a try on the right, converted by Alex King.
Seconds later Saracens' scrum-half Kyran Bracken was taken off injured and
replaced by Nick Walshe but with 10 minutes to go Saracens winger Ben Johnston
tore down the right to score a dramatic try which Sorrell was unable to convert.
But just two minutes later Wasps lock Ian Jones got to the ball to touchdown
after a Leota break and King converted before, in injury time, the same player
sealed victory with a 22m penalty.
