Rock-bottom Wasps saw them problems worsen with another Loftus Road defeat and
the loss of England international Josh Lewsey on Sunday afternoon.
The under-pressure London outfit remain rooted to the foot of the table after
Paul Sackey's try helped the Exiles maintain their impressive start to the
season.
And Lewsey's injury added to their woes, being forced off the field after
taking a blow to his cheekbone.
The home side went in front after 10 minutes, Wasps winger Kenny Logan opening
his account with a powerful penalty kick from just outside the Irish 22 metre
area.
But the major blow to Wasps fight for survival hit them in the 20th minute
when Lewsey was taken off, his replacement being Laurence Scrase.
Ace goalkicker Barry Everitt first drew his side level, then pushed them in
front with a pair of penalties.
Everitt then tagged on a drop goal and another penalty as the visitors
extended their advantage, only for Logan to convert his second penalty to reduce
the gap to six points at the break.
Wasps, with only a solitary win to their name all season, had drawn level
within seven minutes of the restart, Logan again on target.
But Sackey - part of the young England squad which toured North America during
the summer - slid home from close range to grab the only try and after that
Irish were never headed.
Logan, having one of his better afternoons with the boot, slotted home his
fifth shortly afterwards, but Everitt immediately responded and despite intense
pressure near the end, Wasps were unable to grab the try which would have
levelled the scores a second time and remain rooted to the foot of the table.
