Champions Leicester rolled out their big guns to record their first victory of
the season at Welford Road on Saturday afternoon.
Injury-hit Wasps fought bravely but the Tigers cut loose after the interval.
Wasps should have opened in the second minute, but Kenny Logan drifted a 20
metre penalty shot wide.
Tigers sharp-shooter Tim Stimpson suffered a similar fate shortly afterwards,
and was made to pay after 13 minutes when Logan found his range.
Stimpson levelled on the quarter mark before fly-half Andy Goode put his side
in front with a neatly-taken drop-goal.
Putting Leicester level Simpson kicked a close range penalty in the 19th
minute.
Logan slotted home his second penalty to erase the three-point deficit, but
parity was short-lived as Stimpson charged in for a try in the corner, which he
couldn't convert.
However, Wasps were clinging on bravely and had the temerity to take the lead,
Logan striking home twice to give them a one-point half-time lead.
Tigers regrouped at the interval and produced a powerful display which Wasps
were unable to contain.
England lock Ben Kay finished off a forward drive for Leicester's second try,
with Stimpson landing a long range penalty to extend the home side's lead.
Leicester number eight Peter Short was sin-binned for dissent, allowing Logan
to kick another penalty.
Two days after he was hit by a £2,000 fine by the Lions hierarchy, Austin
Healey came off the bench after an hour to huge applause from the home fans.
But Irish star Geordan Murphy was next on the scoresheet, following up his
70th minute effort by sprinting clear of the Wasps defence for his second.
And there was still more to come as Glenn Gelderbloom strolled over before
Stimpson finished off the rout in stoppage time.
