The controversial career of winger Paul Sampson sunk to new depths when he was
sin-binned for punching seconds after scoring the try that kept Wasps in the
race for the title.
The opening score looked as though it was coming in the 13th minute but
Saracens centre Kevin Sorrell saw his 24-metre penalty kick sail to the left of
the upright.
Winger Kenny Logan opened the scoring for Wasps with a cracking penalty kick
from just inside Saracens' 22-metre line.
But Saracens equalised in the 39th minute with a penalty from Sorrell.
Keeping up the pressure, Saracens extended their lead by another three points
in the 43rd minute with a powerful penalty from Sorrell, his second of the
afternoon.
Saracens' joy was short lived three minutes later when Sampson got to a flying
loose ball to place down on the right, but Logan failed to convert.
Minutes later Sampson was sin-binned by referee Steve Lander for punching
Saracens' winger Dan Luger.
The home pack surged forward and in the 62nd minute hooker Trevor Leota
touched down with Logan making a successful conversion.
Shortly afterwards Lawrence Dallaglio got to Alex King's drop goal attempt,
made a try out of it and Logan made another conversion.
In the final minute Logan kicked a penalty to end this all-London derby.
