Scottish winger Kenny Logan put in an impressive display for the international
selectors as he steered depleted Wasps to victory with four penalties and three
conversions at Loftus Road.
It took Sale only a minute to open up the scoring with a casually kicked
penalty from 30 metres by fly-half Nicky Little.
But with neither side forcing the issue, it took another 10 minutes before
Sale stretched the score when scrum-half Bryan Redpath took the credit for a try
after the pack soared down the left.
Then, in the 14th minute, Logan opened up the scoring for the Londoners with a
powerful penalty kick from 30m.
That was the spark which ignited Wasps with winger Shane Roiser making a
lightning sprint to place the ball over, with the conversion from Logan.
With Logan in fine form, he lobbed another powerful penalty through the
uprights from 30m.
Wasps played fast and flowing rugby as they continued the onslaught with lock
Simon Shaw reaching for a pass to place the ball down on the right in the 21st
minute, with Logan converting again.
With three minutes to go to half-time, Sale picked up a valuable three points
from a close-range penalty kick from Little.
But after the interval Irish centre Rob Henderson raced through Sale's defence
to touch down, with Logan making his third conversion of the afternoon.
The visitors fought back gallantly and in the 58th minute Mel Deane got to a
loose ball near to the line and touched down, allowing Little to convert.
Two minutes later Logan lobbed a penalty through the uprights from Sale's 22m
line.
The visitors found they were relying heavily on Little as he proved in the
64th minute with his third penalty of the afternoon, repeating the process two
minutes later with a long-range shot.
But Wasps extended their lead two minutes from time with another penalty by
Logan to secure victory.
