Saracens' Tetley's Bitter Cup clash with Worcester proved to be a one-sided
affair with the Vicarage Road club running in six tries in a romp.
Former England manager Geoff Cooke's side asserted their authority early on,
winning a second-minute penalty, but they soon came undone as Saracens' superior
skill shone through.
Irish winger Darragh O'Mahony ran in the first of the tries after a
perfectly-timed floated pass by Duncan McRae set up O'Mahony on the left wing.
Fly-half McRae, who took over the kicking duties because of Frenchman's Thomas
Castaignede's ruptured Achilles, converted.
Next came a superb effort by Australian international Tim Horan who after a
one-two with number eight Tony Diprose scored under the posts on his debut home
appearance.
McRae again converted before Saracens, who also lead the Zurich Premiership,
continued to trounce the visitors with converted tries by Tony Roques and Ben
Johnson before the break.
Worcester's Sateki Tuipulotu replied with a penalty after 43 minutes but Tom
Shanklin ran in Saracens' fifth converted try of the afternoon.
Alistair Murdoch hit back and saved Worcester's blushes with a converted 74th
minute consolation try only for full-back Gerald Arasa to wrap up the game with
Saracens sixth converted try and booked their place in the quarter-finals of the
cup.
