Wasps 23 Bristol 17

Scotland international Kenny Logan scored 18 points as he inspired Wasps to a Zurich Premiership win over Bristol.

The London side - without several key players - struggled for long periods of the game but a sparkling Logan try enabled them to scramble to victory.

In a lacklustre first half Bristol seized the advantage. A slow back-line move orchestrated by skipper Agustin Pichot allowed full-back Lee Best to score under the posts in the 25th minute.

In a half better remembered for unnecessary offsides and a string of handling errors, Pichot proved to be the only glimmer of hope for Bristol.

His athleticism and decision-making at the base of the scrum gave the visitors a platform to build their attacks on.

Despite Wasp's territorial dominance, it was difficult to understand why Bristol only led by seven points at the interval.

This was largely due to a Kenny Logan penalty which cancelled out an earlier effort by Gareth Bowen and made the score 10-3.

But even Logan's normally reliable boot struggled in the opening stages as the Scotsman missed a chance in front of the post when it appeared easier to score.

Wasps used the half-time interval productively and the side which emerged for the second half looked hungry to avenge their poor showing and secure victory.

Logan, produced a performance of aggression and attacking flair as he scored in the 46th minute following quick hands in the Wasps back line to bring the scores level at 10-10.

Wasps seized the momentum following their try and poured forward. Their renewed enthusiasm was rewarded in the 55th minute when hooker Phil Greening crashed over under the post for Logan to convert.

Having established a comfortable 10 point lead, Wasps were left to sweat in the final three minutes as replacement Jim Brownrigg offered Bristol hope with a late try.

This window of opportunity was slammed shut in injury time though as Logan wrapped up victory with a penalty kick to make the final score 23-17.
