Ben Cairns cannot wait to link up again with Scotland centre sensation Alex Grove after being recalled for Saturday's final autumn international against Argentina.
Edinburgh star Cairns has watched with awe as his partner from this summer's A tour to Romania has made the step up to the Test arena with consummate ease.
In just his second cap last weekend, Worcester centre Grove helped Scotland record one of the greatest wins in their recent history as they beat Australia for the first time in 27 years.
Cairns, 24, could have so easily have been playing alongside Grove in the opening two November Tests but for a knee injury picked up at the beginning of the month.
But he did enough in the A team's routine win over Tonga on Friday night to be given the nod yesterday to replace the out-of-sorts Graeme Morrison against the Pumas.
Assessing Grove's impact, Cairns told Press Association Sport: "He's been really good; I played with him in the Nations Cup in the summer with Scotland A in Romania, and we formed quite a good partnership then.
"It would be good to see that again this weekend."
Cairns' recall sees Grove switch from outside to inside centre and he added: "That's where he played alongside me in the Nations Cup.
"So we've had that experience together and we formed a good combination.
"Hopefully, we can do that again."
Of his own recall, Cairns said: "We had a Scotland A game on Friday night and I was happy with how I performed in that.
"So, I knew it was a possibility and was hoping for the best. It was great to get the news."
Head coach Andy Robinson hinted yesterday Cairns would have started against Fiji and Australia had he been fit.
"It's nice to hear," Cairns said.
"It's always disappointing to get the injury but credit to the medical staff for getting me back so quickly.
"When I first did it, I thought I might be out for the whole of the autumn Tests.
"So it's great to be back involved and getting a chance against Argentina."
Like millions of Scots, Cairns was glued to his television during Saturday's epic 9-8 victory over Australia, which saw Matt Giteau miss a match-winning conversion with the last kick of the game.
"It was a pretty loud living room with everyone watching," Cairns said.
"I think we were all booing Giteau."
Saturday will see Cairns make his first Test appearance since the opening RBS 6 Nations defeat to Wales, which resulted in a number of players being axed from the team.
"For me, it was just about knuckling down and playing well for Edinburgh and taking my chance when I got it," said Cairns who earned the first two of his six caps on the tour of Argentina the summer before last.
He will be joined on the pitch this weekend by Edinburgh team-mate and former schoolmate Alan MacDonald, who makes his debut.
"We've actually played rugby for about 17 years together," Cairns said of the flanker.
"It's great to have that friendly face in around the changing room and on the training pitch and on the pitch.
"I'm sure all our schoolmates will be here on Saturday to cheer us on."
