YOUNG: GLOUCESTER OUT FOR REVENGE

Cardiff Blues boss David Young believes Gloucester will be out to "put the record straight" in Sunday's LV Cup clash at Kingsholm.

The Blues beat Gloucester three times last season - twice in Europe, and then in a hopelessly one-sided Anglo-Welsh final at Twickenham.

"They are probably still carrying a lot of pain from our fixtures last year," said Young.

"I think Gloucester will want to put the record straight after we beat them three times last season in the Heineken and Anglo-Welsh Cup."

The Blues, in particular, are decimated by international call-ups, a situation that has caused Young to question the Anglo-Welsh tournament's scheduling this term.

"We always get excited about playing English opposition, but it's probably not the same tournament as we won last year," he added.

"It is a little bit disappointing from my point of view that they are being played without the major international players.

"Certainly the way I see it, the English teams are going to be affected far less than the Welsh teams.

"The Blues and the Ospreys will be affected most, but it gives the opportunity for young players and fringe players in all the squads a chance to play against quality teams in the English Premiership."

Gloucester fly-half Nicky Robinson lines up against his former club, while head coach Bryan Redpath also recalls the likes of wing Lesley Vainikolo, prop Greg Somerville and number eight Gareth Delve following Tuesday night's defeat against Australia.

Harlequins, with England internationals Mike Brown and David Strettle on view, host the Scarlets, while Guinness Premiership leaders Saracens entertain Bath just eight days after they met in the league.

Centre Kevin Sorrell makes his 300th Saracens appearance, and Bath are boosted by the return of back-row forward Daniel Browne, who has not played for six months due to a foot injury.

"We face a new challenge in a new competition on Sunday, but our goals and focus remain the same," said Saracens rugby director Brendan Venter.

In the day's other games, England forwards Simon Shaw and Joe Worsley start for Wasps away to London Irish, and there is an intriguing head-to-head in the Leeds Carnegie versus Leicester clash.

Joe Ford, son of England defence coach Mike Ford, lines up for Leeds - in direct opposition to Tigers number 10, his brother George.
