Great things were expected in his first year with the All Blacks in 2003 and the talented 20-year-old delivered. Rokocoko scored 17 Test tries to set a new record for the calendar year.
'The Rocket Man' has burned his way into the pantheon of great Blues and All Blacks wingers in just two seasons of scorching play - he has now scored 27 tries in just 23 Tests.
After a quiet 2004 NPC campaign, Rokocoko blazed into life with a last-minute, match-winning try in Auckland's last match against Otago, before returning to some vintage form on the All Blacks end-of-year tour.
He was the first All Black to score two or more tries in four consecutive Tests, including memorable hat-tricks against France and Australia.
His brilliant 2003 season was recognised by the International Rugby Players' Association with a nomination for 2003 Player of the Year.
Rokocoko is the youngest player selected (a week before his 20th birthday) for the All Blacks since another great wing - Jonah Lomu in 1994.
His family arrived in New Zealand when he was five years old, and he is a member of a select group of players who made New Zealand Schools for three years in a row.
Representative honours also include playing in the New Zealand Under-19 side that won the Junior World Cup in Chile in 2001, playing in all four matches. |
