LIONS PLAYER RATINGS
Picture
Dawson - man of the match.

GEORDAN MURPHY: Quiet game for the Leicester full-back who was given little opportunity to attack, but did nothing wrong. 6

MARK CUETO: Surprise omission from original touring party and his absence from the Test team is equally baffling. Another eye-catching display full of creativity. 8

WILL GREENWOOD: England centre has looked off pace all tour and another disappointing performance makes his bench selection for first Test even more of a mystery. 5

GORDON D'ARCY: Just as the tour nears its conclusion the Ireland midfielder is starting to fire, putting his injury problems behind him. 7

DENIS HICKIE: Should have scored in the left corner after spilling a cross-field kick but saved a dangerous situation with some clever defensive work. 6

CHARLIE HODGSON: The Lions' in-form fly-half was commanding in the number 10 jersey until he limped off with an injury with a quarter of the match gone. 8

MATT DAWSON: Scant opportunity to impress all tour but veteran England scrum-half was close to his best in a man-of-the-match display. 8

GRAHAM ROWNTREE: The Lions failed to gain any advantage at the scrum but Rowntree's bloodied face was evidence of his commitment in the loose. 6

GORDON BULLOCH: Midweek skipper has not got close to the Test line-up but deserves to be involved on Saturday after another spirited display. 7

JOHN HAYES: Some eyebrows were raised when Hayes was included in the Lions' squad and another anonymous performance shows why. 5

SIMON SHAW: Made a fine start with some powerful runs and aggressive work in the loose catching the eye, but then faded. 6

BEN KAY: Left the pitch with an horrendous black eye in first half after taking an elbow and wrongly accused of starting the fight. 6

JASON WHITE: One big hit underlined why White is considered one of the most ferocious tacklers in the game. 6

MARTYN WILLIAMS: While doubts linger over Williams' ability to mix it with the All Blacks, he at least deserves a chance following an outstanding match against Auckland. 8

MICHAEL OWEN: Showed some nice handling skills and looked tidy at the back of the scrum, Owen played a full role in the Lions' stirring forward effort. 7

Replacements:

MATT STEVENS: Arrived late, giving him no chance to prove himself. 5

BRENT COCKBAIN: Aggressive and committed, a valuable asset. 6

MARTIN CORRY: Shored up the back row. Solid and unspectacular. 6

RONAN O'GARA: Kicked superbly when the pressure was on. 8

SHANE HORGAN: Brought energy to the midfield when it was needed. 6
