COLLINS GOES FIFTEEN TO ONE

The debate around Sir Clive Woodward's first-Test team for the Lions against New Zealand on Saturday will rage like a bush fire.

So here it is, my slightly controversial, England-dominated Test team in full.

The front row? Welshman Gethin Jenkins after his try-scoring brilliance against Wellington on Wednesday has surged into place next to Julian White, the world's best scummager.

Andrew Sheridan, the Sale strongman, will be on the replacements bench as an impact substitute.

Between the big men, Ireland's Shane Byrne takes the hooker's role, just ahead of England's Steve Thompson - purely on quality of throw-in.

Behind them come locks O'Connell and Grewcock, with England's Ben Kay still not back to his pre-World Cup best.

The Irish/English second row combination may be too fiery, but gives the Lions the weight and passion in the front five.

Then the all-English loose trio of Neil Back, Richard Hill and Martin Corry.

It's a controversial choice but I think that's the way Sir Clive Woodward will go with three very unlucky Welshman left disappointed.

Ryan Jones was magnificent on his debut against Otago on Saturday, Martyn Williams is brilliant but gives away too many penalties, Michael Owen has interrupted his preparation through having to fly home for the birth of his second child.

Most experts have Jonny Wilkinson and fly-half ahead of an apparently subdued Stephen Jones but I'd go for the in-form Charlie Hodgson with Scotland's sole representative Chris Cusiter at scrum-half ahaed of Dwayne Peel and Matt Dawson.

The centre pairing has to be the over-hyped pair of captain Brian O'Driscoll and Gavin Henson. Neither have really sparkled but they're big-game players. Will Greenwood has made up ground after a difficult season and we might see Wilkinson drafted in at centre if things are going badly.

The wings? England's Mark Cueto and late-arriving Gavin Thomas haven't had enough opportunities, so despite their size I'd like to see Welshman Shane Williams and England's Jason Robinson as the wide men ahead of the Irish hopefuls.

Tom Shanklin deserves a shout ahead of Robinson after some solid perform ances but does he have the raw pace?

Robinson and Williams have the quick feet to compete with your Howletts, Rocokocos and Sitivenis.

Full-back? Josh Lewsey, my player of the tour so far.

So that's three Grand Slam-winning Welshmen, three Irishmen, one Scot and, despite their post-World Cup problems eight Englishmen.

Not right is it? Will Ryan Jones surge straight in to the Test team? Is Dwayne Peel the natural No 9 inside Stephen Jones, the outstanding half-back pairing of the past international season? Murphy, D'Arcy and Horgan are all impressive Irish backs just aching for a crack at the All Blacks.

Who knows. I'd pick this lot, but without much real confidence of success, unless Sir Clive sends them out on a filthy, rainy night and submerges the mighty All Blacks in a mud-and-thunder forward battle.

An open, attacking game can go only one way, and it won't be any good to a Lions team who have struggled to produce sparkling back play all tour.

My Lions; Jenkins, Byrne, White, O'Connell, Grewcock, Hill, Back, Corry, Cusiter, Hodgson, Williams, Henson, O'Driscoll, Robinson, Lewsey.
