Hull missed the chance to leapfrog revival club Warrington in seventh spot in engage Super League as they slipped to a 24-12 defeat at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

The sides were level at 6-6 at the break but the Wolves ran in three tries in 10 minutes after the interval to make it five wins in their last six league matches.

Australian scrum-half Michael Monaghan impressed for the hosts after their pack took control.

Warrington opted to further delay the anticipated debut of former Great Britain winger Brian Carney who returned to rugby league recently from Munster.

The Wolves were also missing Lee Briers, Mickey Higham and Paul Rauhihi with Hull leaving out Chris Thorman despite ending a four-match losing run against Salford last week.

It was deadlock for the first 25 minutes although a barnstorming break by Warrington prop Garreth Carvell against his old club deserved a try.

A Ben Westwood blunder gave Hull a chance to go ahead but Graeme Horne threw a wild pass into touch.

Westwood was again the culprit to allow Hull to grab the lead with his stray pass intercepted by Jodie Broughton, on loan from Leeds, who raced 80 metres for the opening try converted by Danny Tickle.

Simon Grix limped off before the break for Warrington who drew level at half-time with a breathtaking Chris Riley try.

But it was a 70-metre sprint by Richie Mathers which set up the touchdown, with Riley taking his smart inside pass to score and Chris Hicks booting the touchline conversion.

The Wolves went in front for the first time early in the second half with Monaghan creating a try for the hard-working Paul Wood to make it 12-6.

Warrington increased their advantage with Matt King shrugging off Horne after 52 minutes with Hicks adding another difficult conversion.

Hull conceded their third try in a nightmare spell with Monaghan and Vinnie Anderson combining for Ben Harrison to cross and extend the lead to 24-6.

Warrington's defence was breached with Shaun Berrigan putting Kirk Yeaman over on the hour but Hull never looked like clawing back the deficit.
