Castleford ran in five tries to make it a miserable Easter for the Wolves, who slumped to their second defeat in four days.

Cas, who have now won three of their last four Super League matches, were worthy winners as they bounced back from their 35-6 derby drubbing by Wakefield on Good Friday.

Warrington boss Tony Smith gave Kevin Penny, who was dropped after the opening defeat to St Helens in February, his first start since taking over early last month.

Lee Briers was still sidelined through injury after missing Friday's last-gasp 18-16 reverse at Salford.

Matt King reverted to centre with Vinnie Anderson out while Castleford were missing Dean Widders, who tore a calf muscle in their home defeat by Wakefield, and Nathan Massey.

Surging early runs from Paul Rauhihi caused Cas problems but it was a Ben Harrison burst that gave Warrington their first chance.

Skipper Adrian Morley could have scored had he taken a Rauhihi pass cleanly but defences were on top in an evenly contested affair, at least in the first half.

The Tigers finally broke the deadlock after 33 minutes when Brett Ferres took Mike Wainwright's inside pass to go over in the corner and Kirk Dixon booted the touchline conversion.

Desperate Cas tackling held up King over the line as the Tigers, still missing the suspended Ryan McGoldrick, led 6-0 at the break.

Cas extended their lead 11 minutes after the restart with Brent Sherwin's long pass finding Michael Wainwright, who shrugged off a weak Paul Johnson tackle and Dixon added the goal.

Worse followed for Warrington with Michael Monaghan's hesitancy from Sherwin's kick allowing Rangi Chase to win the race to touch down and make it 18-0.

The Wolves finally gave their long-suffering fans something to cheer with Chris Bridge forcing his way over and Chris Hicks landing the goal on the hour.

Further tries from Michael Shenton and Chase in the last nine minutes added gloss to the scoreline.
