Warrington cruised into the fifth round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup with a 10-try blitz of Championship One part-timers York.

The Knights, who finished with 12 men, briefly stunned their engage Super League opponents by taking a 6-4 lead when full-back Danny Ratcliffe finished off John Oakes' burst in style with Richard Knight tagging on the conversion.

It was a third win in a row for the Wolves but coach Tony Smith will be alarmed by a sloppy defence which also allowed Paul Hughes to scramble over after Mike Mitchell was held short midway through the first half.

But York had prop Danny Ekis sent off after 64 minutes when they trailed 34-10 and Louis Anderson was yellow-carded for retaliation.

Warrington romped to a club record 84-1 win over York the last time the sides met in a Challenge Cup tie at Wilderspool in 2000 with Lee Briers piling up 40 points.

Briers, man of the of match against Celtic Crusaders last week, continued at scrum-half in the absence of injured Michael Monaghan but has now handed over the kicking duties to Chris Hicks.

The Wolves rested England duo Martin Gleeson, linked with a move to Wigan, and skipper Adrian Morley but Ben Westwood returned after a five-match suspension with Garreth Carvell back after a similar absence through injury and he celebrated with a man-of-the-match award.

Simon Grix gave Warrington a second-minute lead from Chris Bridge's pass before Ratcliffe's response for York.

Ben Harrison then put Vinnie Anderson over before scoring himself with Hicks adding both goals.

Hughes' opportunist touchdown cut the gap to 16-10 but Westwood crashed over for the fourth try after 26 minutes.

The Wolves led 28-10 at half-time with Jon Clarke putting Michael Cooper over for his first try of the season.

York turned in a plucky show but Warrington made it 34-10 after 48 minutes when Bridge scored. The part-timers managed to prevent any further scores until Ekis' dismissal and the extra man told with Warrington notching further tries from Briers, Vinnie Anderson, Louis Anderson and Paul Johnson.
