Huddersfield Giants claimed instant revenge for their Carnegie Challenge Cup loss to Hull KR at Craven Park to ease the pressure on under-fire head coach Jon Sharp in sparkling fashion.

Nine-try Giants made a mockery of their alarming form, which had seen them lose eight of their previous 11 matches, to stun Rovers - who beat them 42-22 in the Cup in East Hull just seven days earlier.

Rovers, with four wins from their previous five matches, drew first blood in the sixth minute of this engage Super League contest when Paul Cooke's sublime pass was latched on to by Scott Murrell, who sauntered over, Cooke converting.

But that was as good as it got for the visitors, with Giants hitting back six minutes later with teenager Michael Lawrence's scorching run seeing him surge past Jake Webster, before setting up Martin Aspinwall, who went over in the corner.

Giants, aided by a succession of penalties, proceeded to dominate and Shane Elford finished off a delightful six-man move on 17 minutes - Luke Robinson missing his second conversion.

But the former Salford half-back played a decisive hand when Giants claimed another try close to the half hour, burrowing over from dummy-half - Chris Thorman tagged on the goal.

Giants wrapped up a polished first half when Lawrence again showed blistering pace to breeze past Ben Cockayne and Webster following a sweeping move started by Paul Whatuira's long range run, Thorman converting.

Huddersfield's momentum continued after the restart, John Skandalis going over from close range - Thorman again converting - before the hosts sealed the win with a stunning score.

Fantastic work from Whatuira and Elford set up youngster Leroy Cudjoa, who dived over for his first try for the club.

Giants were running riot and added another score - their fourth try in just under 15 minutes - when Whatuira powered over following Danny Kirkmond's initial break.

Replacement Rhys Lovegrove did salvage some pride for Rovers with a 67th-minute try from Cooke's pass, but Giants put gloss on their triumph soon after when former Rovers player Andy Raleigh crossed.

Peter Fox got a late score for Rovers, after latching onto Cooke's kick, before Cockayne was sin-binned for a high tackle. Thorman landed the penalty.

The impressive Lawrence dived over in the dying moments, to put the seal on a fantastic afternoon for the Giants, with Thorman's conversion ensuring they reached a half century of points.
