A hat-trick from Scott Grix and another devastating display by Danny Brough condemned Castleford to yet more derby misery at the hands of Wakefield on Saturday.

Brough was the inspiration behind the Tigers' promotion to the engage Super League last season but he combined with Grix to make their first experience of Millennium Magic a miserable one.

Scrum-half Brough maintained his outstanding form by creating three tries and kicking nine goals from 10 attempts in the second game of the showpiece Cardiff. He was also unlucky to be denied a try himself by the video referee.

It was another disappointing day for the Tigers, who were relegated at the hands of the Wildcats in 2006 and remain rooted to the bottom of the table with four points.

The Tigers seemed lost in the spacious surroundings, their defence failing to contain a Wakefield outfit that raced ahead with four tries in the opening 21 minutes.

They were already trailing to a Brough penalty when Kirk Dixon spilled the ball and allowed the Wildcats the possession from which Adam Watene powered over for the opening try from close range.

Tony Martin then stretched the Tigers on the right and it took three men to haul Jamie Rooney down just short of the line as he took up the attack.

An untimely slip prevented Brough going over on the next tackle but Sam Obst was not to be denied as space opened up on the left.

A long pass from Richard Moore then put Grix over in the corner and the game seemed as good over for Cas as Moore himself touched down moments later.

Brough was the architect with a tricky break from deep and Moore finished off after the ball went through the hands of Rooney.

It could have been worse for Cas had video referee Steve Ganson not denied Rooney, but Terry Matterson's men finally got themselves on the scoreboard just before the interval.

Richard Owen claimed the try in the corner from a pass by Dixon, who then converted to cut the deficit to 24-6.

Warrington recovered from 22-6 down at half-time to win the weekend's opening game but any prospect of Cas producing a similar feat were ended as Grix claimed his second within five minutes of the restart.

Brough again did the damage with a high kick which rebounded off a post into Grix's arms.

Cas at least showed some spirit. Scott Moore was held up over the line and new signing Ned Catic, a former Wildcats player, was denied a debut try when Brough stole the ball from him in-goal.

Rising star Joe Westerman then did find his way over and Dixon added another conversion but a wayward pass from Ryan McGoldrick allowed Damien Blanch to break clear for his first Wildcats try.

Castleford claimed a third try through Michael Shenton but it proved no more than a consolation.

Brough looked to have rubbed salt into the wounds when he chipped over the defence and raced through to touch down but the video official spotted an infringement.

Ryan Atkins claimed the Tigers' eighth try and Blanch then brought up the half-century with his second score of the game, from a Brough pass, in the closing moments. Brough converted both.
