Wigan safely advanced to the fifth round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup with a comfortable 74-4 victory over French outfit SM Pia XIII.
The part-timers were never going to repeat the exploits of the Catalans Dragons, who won at the JJB Stadium in the engage Super League last weekend, as the Warriors were too big, too strong and too professional for their plucky but outclassed opponents.
Hat-trick heroes Mark Calderwood and Liam Colbon led the way as the home side amassed 14 tries in all, with Iafeta Paleaaesina grabbing his first two tries of the campaign and Lee Mossop also crossing the whitewash on his first-team debut.
However, the biggest cheer of the afternoon came after 23 minutes when centre Mahmoud Djalout notched Pia's only try, which their effort and enthusiasm thoroughly merited.
The Warriors had got off to a poor start when second-row Harrison Hansen dropped the ball from the kick off, but the visitors were not able to make much yardage.
And winger Calderwood showed good pace and neat footwork to cross for two tries inside the first five minutes to establish Wigan's dominance.
Pat Richards notched the third try of the afternoon on nine minutes thanks to Thomas Leuluai's offload, while George Carmont's touchdown on 12 minutes after good hands from Hansen and Leuluai ensured the Warriors were scoring at a rate of two points a minute with Richards' faultless kicking.
Pia were showing plenty of spirit but Wigan were finding gaps every time they spread the ball beyond the second receiver and, although Richards was stopped a yard short by a super cover tackle by Emmanuel Fort, Mickey Higham sneaked over from the dummy-half position.
The one-way traffic was temporarily halted after 23 minutes when Djalout crossed for Pia out in the left-hand corner, although the conversion attempt barely made its way into Wigan's 10-metre area.
Hansen scored Wigan's sixth try on the half-hour mark off Leuluai's inside ball and, although Richards missed his first kick of the day, he sent a beauty over from the touchline four minutes later after Phil Bailey had sent over Colbon in the left-hand corner.
Calderwood completed his hat-trick on the stroke of half-time after Leuluai's kick found him in oceans of space to send Wigan in 44-4 ahead at the break.
A typical barnstorming run from Paleaaesina brought up the 50-point mark just two minutes into the second half, and he doubled his tally eight minutes later with a similar lack of subtlety.
Mossop marked his debut with the next try on the hour mark after Hansen played him in, to be swiftly followed by Andy Coley getting his name on the scoresheet, with the boot of Richards making it 66-4.
The rout was completed by Colbon's second and third tries, although Bailey could probably have scored them both but for unselfish centre play, with Richards failing to add to his nine goals.
