Hull KR fought their way through the fog and past Castleford to register a third engage Super League victory of the season in treacherous conditions at Craven Park.

Justin Morgan's expensively-assembled side had failed to fire to their potential before the game with Terry Matterson's bottom club, but found the right combinations at the right times in a contest that came close to being called off before the kick-off as thick fog covered large parts of the playing surface.

Despite the conditions rarely improving, Daniel Fitzhenry posted two tries for the home side and Chev Walker crossed for a first score since his return to the sport as the Robins edged their way back into the play-off picture following two straight defeats.

The Tigers, who caught the eye with a ruthless dismantling of Leeds last week, never reached those heights and were hamstrung by some poor decision making in the halves - an element that was a feature of their win over the Rhinos.

If they were still buoyant after that result, then they were brought back to earth with a bump early on as Hull KR set about avenging their defeat at Wakefield last Sunday and went ahead in the fifth minute.

Fitzhenry was the scorer, with his third try of the season and his effort could not have been simpler as he followed in Ben Galea's kick and skipped past Stuart Donlan to ground.

Scott Murrell failed to convert the score, leaving the deficit at just four points and Castleford immediately pressed on with wiping it out and could have scored two tries of their own.

The first opportunity came when Michael Wainwright was crunched down by Clint Newton after good work from Ryan McGoldrick and Kirk Dixon, whilst McGoldrick was denied by the video referee after losing the ball under pressure from Shaun Briscoe as he followed up Brent Sherwin's kick.

James Webster would later also have a try chalked off by Ashley Klein just before the interval, but Rovers had extended their lead by then as Ben Cockayne touched down. Again it came from a kick, this time from Murrell, who then converted after Klein approved the score.

Fitzhenry's fourth score of the season opened up the second half after Jake Webster sent him flying clear down the left following a sumptuous break, with Murrell edging the conversion over off the post.

Walker then cantered in for his first try since his return to the code after an impressive looped ball from James Webster, before the latter nearly provided Jon Steel with a first try in a year.

Webster pierced the Castleford line with an interception and sent Steel free, only for Shenton to usher him into touch as he shaped to cross in the corner.

Castleford's misery continued as they threw a couple of overlap opportunities into touch, inviting Rovers to apply further pressure which nearly resulted in a hat-trick for Fitzhenry but he could not gather Shaun Briscoe's high pass.

Castleford did close out the game with a try, a simple grounding for Craig Huby after a neat kick from McGoldrick, but the game had long since gone.
