The boot of Danny Brough proved enough to arrest a run of three straight defeats for Wakefield as they resisted a late charge from Hull KR to win their engage Super League clash at Belle Vue.
The scrum-half slotted five goals and created a crucial try just before the break in a mesmerising performance for John Kear's side.
It looked as though that could be the case here too as Justin Morgan's outfit mounted a late rally after they had trailed 16-6, but lacking class and composure in the half-back positions they fell short of their target.
With two weeks having elapsed since their last outing, Rovers struggled to spark early on and found themselves 8-0 down before they registered a serious attack.
Brough got the scoreboard ticking with a fifth-minute penalty and with Adam Watene making yards at will, Wakefield were dominant.
With Rovers handing a debut to teenage stand-off Chaz I'Anson they appeared to be lacking in the halves and Ben Galea often stepped in to complete a set. They soon found themselves further behind on 16 minutes.
Wakefield had lost Luke George to a nasty looking injury when his studs stuck in the turf and he collapsed unchallenged, but they put that aside as his centre partner Ryan Atkins took in a superb one-handed pass from Oliver Wilkes to score in the corner.
Brough punted the touchline conversion, before Daniel Fitzhenry stole the show.
He twice wasted good attacking positions by attempting passes that were never on, but then created a superb try for Scott Murrell.
Sean Gleeson had already denied Shaun Briscoe with a fine tackle, but the former could do little to sedate Fitzhenry just shy of the 30-minute mark.
After he took the ball off I'Anson, Fitzhenry kicked down the line and sped past Gleeson, where he collected the ball and fed the supporting Murell who cantered in before adding the goal.
Brough's kicking again settled things as he slotted a penalty and then created a first penalty try of the season.
His well weighted chip in-goal originally had too much bounce for Sam Obst but as the ball came down again, Fitzhenry and Obst collided. Brough converted before Murrell added a penalty on the stroke of half-time.
Although Wakefield began the defence of their lead in the second period, they were caught off-guard when Mick Vella plundered his way over for a 50th-minute try.
Vella opted to kick ahead when he collected the ball close to the line and somehow managed to chase his kick down and score. Jake Webster added the goal.
Despite Rovers domination the sides traded tries and the lead either side of the hour mark. Jake Webster's fifth of the season edged his side ahead, before Galea coughed up possession which allowed a superb ball form Brough to send Atkins in for a second of the afternoon.
Rovers were unable to provide a sting in the tail and a last-ditch dive to the line from Briscoe was the closest they came as Wakefield held on.
