Harlequins cast aside their opening-day mauling by Wigan to record their first win of the new engage Super League season as they put Hull to the sword at the KC Stadium.
Brian McDermott's men slipped to a 47-28 reverse when they entertained the Warriors eight days ago but took full advantage of Hull's injury problems and woeful first half showing to kickstart their campaign with a comprehensive victory.
The majority of the damage was done in an eight-minute burst early in the opening half when they registered three tries to power them into what proved to be an unassailable lead.
Peter Sharp's Hull, who were gallant losers at Warrington in their opening game, again started without seven first-team regulars but can only offer that as part of an excuse for a dismal first showing on home soil that saw them jeered off on both whistles.
To spoil an otherwise faultless afternoon for the visitors, stand-off Scott Hill was stretchered off in a neck brace after a five-minute stoppage.
Harlequins opened the scoring in the ninth minute and went on to post three first half scores, two of which could be traced back to Hull's full-back Motu Tony who endured a torrid half.
He could do nothing about Rob Purdham's opener though, which came as the loose-forward spun over the line from Chad Randall's pass, but he then became bedazzled by Danny Orr's kicking and made two grave errors.
His first saw him track a kick from Orr that landed on Hull's 30 metre line into his own in-goal area where he was forced to concede a drop-out. Harlequins needed no second invitation and from the resulting scrum, swung the ball across the field and Orr popped up again to hand David Howell a walk in try in the corner.
Matt Gafa, the scorer of two tries in the Wigan defeat was the next to cash in on Tony's profligate defending, poaching another score.
Again, Orr was involved, punting a high kick into the corner which Tony and Gareth Raynor left to each other. The result saw Gafa slip through the pair of them and plant the ball down just before it ran dead.
Hull's Achilles heel was quickly becoming their inability to deal with any kicks that came their way and they were fortunate not to concede further scores before the break as Howell had another ruled out for offside after a Hill kick split the home defence.
Hull did have some possession in the opening half, but shorn of an established half-back, they were unable to conjure much of note.
Raynor had a try chalked off just before the hooter after a forward pass from Craig Hall and Shaun Berrigan came up just short of the line after a scoot from dummy-half.
But it was not enough from a side expected to being among the front runners this season and it clearly took harsh words from Sharp at the interval to give them some impetus.
Their intensity rose somewhat at the start of the second period but they remained frustrated by a Harlequins' defence marshalled superbly by their impeccable full-back Mark McLinden.
In what proved to be one their most meaningful attacks of the game, Danny Tickle opted to ignore a two-man overlap and attempted to power over the line himself only for McLinden to thwart his ambitions.
Hill was then sadly taken off, before Randall plundered over from close-range to rack-up a fourth Quins' try. Hull appealed to Ashley Klein for a double movement, but their claims were ignored and Purdham's goal opened up a 20- point lead.
The seemingly luckless Hall then stepped in touch when outstripping Rikki Sheriffe on his way to the line before Gafa's fourth try of the season was matched by a late consolation score from Berrigan.
