Wakefield moved up to fifth in Super League on Sunday night with victory over their London opponents.

Jamie Rooney crossed early in the match, with Ryan Atkins (two), Paul White and Ned Catic also getting tries as the Wildcats moved above Warrington and Huddersfield in the table.

Scott Hill, Jon Wells and Tyrone Smith went over the line for the visitors, who trailed 14-4 at the turnaround at Belle Vue.

The Wildcats improved their play-off chances with a workmanlike display, while inflicting a fourth successive defeat on the visitors.

Mark McLinden crossed early on for the visitors, only for the score to be ruled out for an obstruction by Henry Paul.

Three minutes later the hosts went ahead when Rooney slid in to score following good work by Ben Jefferies.

Jason Demetriou was held up over the Quins line before more home pressure forced a second try in the 21st minute through Atkins.

Demetriou then sent Paul White over in the corner for his 40th career try, before Peter Fox's crossed - but the effort was cancelled out because of a forward pass.

Harlequins were given hope at the end of the half when Peter Fox's try was ruled out for a forward pass.

Hill reduced the deficit in the corner but Rooney's penalty stretched the hosts advantage - then Quins had a Smith try ruled out for obstruction.

The Wildcats made the visitors suffer as Catic went over from close range.

And Quins were again denied by the video referee, with Wells' score being ruled out for a questionable foot in touch.

Just past the hour mark, Wells scored in the same corner to get Quins to within 12 points of the home side.

But a Rooney penalty and Atkins' second try killed off the visitors - although Smith went over right at the end.
