A first-half whirlwind from Wakefield gave the Wildcats a thoroughly-deserved 32-6 victory over woeful Wigan at Belle Vue.
Despite going behind to Trent Barrett's early score, tries from Jason Demetriou, Ben Jeffries, Matt Blaymire, and Peter Fox gave the home side a commanding 22-6 interval lead.
The Warriors never looked liked scoring after the interval and, after Barrett was sin-binned, further tries from Jeffries and Richard Moore piled on the misery for Wigan.
Wakefield had made the worst start imaginable, with the kick-off going out on the full, and the Warriors very nearly made them pay.
Thomas Leuluai's grubber kick to the corner appeared to be touched down by Pat Richards, only for the touch judge to rule a knock on.
Wigan did open the scoring after five minutes, when Bryan Fletcher's neat offload put Barrett over.
Richards added the goal, but Demetriou then waltzed round David Vaealiki to reduce the arrears five minutes later.
Demetriou then opened up the Wigan defence down the middle, but the covering Mark Calderwood managed to get back to deny the supporting Sam Obst.
It mattered not as a Fletcher knock on handed the ball back to Wakefield and Jeffries reached over by the posts to give Brett Ferres an easy conversion.
Demetriou was causing all sorts of problems to the visitors' defence, and he found another gap four minutes before the interval, before putting Blaymire under the posts.
Ferres added the extras to make it 16-6 to the Wildcats, and only desperate defence kept Ryan Atkins out a minute later after a surging run from Jeffries.
Wakefield did have another try in them before the half-time hooter, however, with Sean Gleeson putting Fox through a gaping hole, with Ferres' conversion giving his side a 16-point lead at the break.
The Warriors pushed hard at the start of the second half but could not break down a resolute home defence.
And the Wildcats nearly went further in front around the hour mark but Ferres was denied a score by a double movement.
The loose forward then squandered the opportunity to put his men three converted scores clear when he missed a relatively straightforward penalty attempt.
The Wigan cause was not helped by the sin-binning of Barrett for a high tackle on the impressive Adam Watene, and Wakefield took full advantage almost immediately.
First Atkins and then Jeffries walked through some shocking defence for the scrum-half to score under the posts, which he duly converted with Ferres off the field.
And Wigan's afternoon was summed up when prop Moore broke and went half the length of the field to round off a convincing victory for the Wildcats.
