Leeds have never lost three Super League games in a row and, despite defeats at the hands of Hull FC and Wigan in successive matches, they clawed their way back on to the winning track against Hull KR at a cold and wet Craven Park.
Even after forcing the Rhinos' into four drop outs from under their own posts, it took Rovers 12 minutes to take the lead against Super League's joint leaders.
And when the score came it was from a Paul Cooke penalty after Danny McGuire obstructed Ben Cockayne as he charged down the middle.
Leeds did not look to be on top form but a series of raids forced Rovers on to the defensive and the visitors took a fortunate lead on 24 minutes.
Rob Burrow's kick into space was deflected by a Rovers foot into the path of McGuire who touched down. Kevin Sinfield added the conversion.
A high tackle by Jamie Jones-Buchanan on Ben Fisher after 29 minutes allowed Cooke to land his second penalty and closeLeeds' lead to two points.
A sudden dart by Cooke saw him held up over the line and when the ball was moved swiftly to the right Luke Dyer was forced into touch by the flag.
Although Leeds pressed hard they were unable to extend their lead and ended the half 6-4 ahead.
Jordan Tansey put the pressure back on Rovers after the restart with a raking 40-20 and from the play which followed the ball was moved left and Clinton Toopi touched down, Sinfield again converting.
Leeds added to Rovers woes in the 66th minute when Jordan Tansey was put through by Brent Webb. Sinfield again added the extra points.
Rovers kept on fighting urged on by the 7731 crowd and, on 69 minutes, James Webster sent in Jason Netherton for a try with Cooke converting but the Rhinos hung on for the win.
