Centre Kevin Brown scored a hat-trick and was then sin-binned as Huddersfield ended their seven-match losing streak in emphatic style against neighbours Wakefield.

Brown dashed 80 metres to register a stunning solo touchdown after 27 minutes to punish a mistake by Ben Jeffries near his own tryline.

It was the fourth of five first-half tries bottom club Huddersfield scored as they raced into 28-0 lead and there was no let-up in a second half where Brown stole the show.

He scored two tries in three minutes soon after the restart. The first came after 48 minutes when Brown finished off a move that saw Stuart Jones break from deep.

And he completed his hat-trick after 51 minutes by dodging two attempted tackles to reach the tryline for his second solo try of the night.

But Brown spoiled an otherwise brilliant personal display with a needless and cynical foul to stop Wakefield's Peter Fox scoring a consolation try after 65 minutes.

Stephen Wild put the Giants ahead inside three minutes from Keith Mason's final pass and after that the Giants never looked back against a team they have now beaten 12 times from their last 13 meetings.

Steve Snitch and Robbie Paul both went over in quick succession before Wild doubled up after 35 minutes from Martin Aspinwall's final pass into the right corner that looked suspiciously like a forward pass.

Wakefield got off the mark just before the interval when Richard Moore dived over from Danny Sculthorpe's pass. Matt Blaymire got the Wildcats' other try five minutes from the end. Stand-off Jamie Rooney converted them both.

But Wakefield, who could have gone top with a win, did little else all night in an error-strewn performance. Huddersfield piled on the misery with five further tries in the second half.

Andy Raleigh, Stuart Jones and Paul Reilly dived over in addition to Brown's two second-half efforts. Brad Drew and Chris Thorman both added four goals each to complete the scoring.
