Warrington, beaten three times by Salford last season, warmed up for the new season with five tries in a comfortable friendly win at The Willows.
The Wolves, in their final pre-season match, included all three new signings - Adrian Morley, Paul Johnson and Vinnie Anderson - in a virtual full-strength line-up.
Salford had seven newcomers on parade and Danny Halliwell, snapped up from National League Leigh, fired the Reds ahead after only 10 minutes when Stuart Reardon failed to gather Luke Robinson's kick.
But Warrington led 6-4 at the break, with Henry Fa'afili crossing from a well-judged kick by skipper Lee Briers, who booted the conversion.
The Wolves stretched the lead when Rob Parker shrugged off Halliwell to send Martin Gleeson over for his first try, with Briers adding the goal before quitting with a shin injury. Coach Paul Cullen, however, later dismissed fears of any major worry.
Salford were reduced to 12 men when Aaron Moule was sin-binned in the 55th minute by referee Richard Silverwood for disputing a disallowed David Gower try.
Warrington took advantage for Gleeson to bag his second try and make it 16-4.
Moule was still off the field when young second-rower Luke Adamson notched his first try for the Reds, but Warrington regained the initiative with further tries from Rob Parker and Fa'afili.
Salford did manage a late touchdown from David Hodgson in front of a 2,900 crowd.
