Robbie Paul rolled back the years with a vintage display to help Huddersfield reach the Powergen Challenge Cup semi-finals for the second time in three years.
The 30-year-old scrum-half, a veteran of five Cup finals with Bradford, revelled in the domination of the Giants forwards as the Yorkshiremen moved to within 80 minutes of a first Cup final appearance for 46 years.
Paul created Huddersfield's opening try for second rower Chris Nero and scored of his own before half-time to rekindle memories of his hat-trick heroics at Wembley in 1996.
Huddersfield, who last won the Cup in 1953, brushed aside the disruption caused by the late withdrawal of Jim Gannon and James Evans through illness to run in eight tries against a desperately disappointing Salford side who have lost six of their last eight League and Cup matches.
The Reds led 6-0 thanks to Aaron Moule's seventh-minute try, which was the result of a fine grubber kick from Andrew Dunemann.
And they were only 12-10 behind when David Hodgson took Andy Coley's pass to grab a second try on 34 minutes.
But there was never any doubting Huddersfield's superiority and the game took a decisive twist just before half-time when they scored two tries in four minutes.
First quick hands from Eorl Crabtree, Paul March and Stephen Wild worked winger Martin Aspinwall over at the corner and then Paul timed his run perfectly to touch down Drew's kick to the line.
The accurate boot of Michael De Vere put the home side 24-10 ahead and Paul was also involved in Nero's second try three minutes into the second half which put the result beyond doubt.
Winger Hodgson, one of the few Salford players to catch the eye, provided a reminder of his Great Britain potential when he went 80 metres for his second try.
But Drew deservedly got on the scoresheet on the hour, forcing his way over from close range, and stand-off March grabbed two tries in six minutes as the Giants finished in total control.
A powerful burst from Crabtree set up March's first score while the irrepressible Paul broke clear to give him a clear to the line for his second, with De Vere taking his goal tally to six from eight attempts.
