London Broncos booked their place in the last 16 of the Powergen Challenge Cup
with a four-try win over the Reds.
The Broncos got off to a dream start when Jim Dymock sent Joe Mbu crashing
across the line from close range for the opening score after 75 seconds.
The home side continued to pile on the pressure and Dymock again created an
opening but full-back Paul Sykes was held up over the line.
Broncos winger Jon Wells forced the Salford defence into making a hasty
clearance as he chased his own kick.
They went further ahead after 29 minutes when Neil Budworth and Dennis Moran
worked open the Reds defence for Nigel Roy to touch down and Sykes goaled.
The Broncos briefly lost concentration towards the end of the half and had
Andrew Hart sin-binned for laying on in the tackle.
Salford were, however, unable to capitalise and two minutes before the break
Sykes added a 40-metre penalty.
The Broncos scored their third try 15 minutes into the second half when Moran
picked off a Martin Moana pass to race 65metres to the line with Sykes adding
the goal.
Former Red, Radney Bowker, provided the pass for Hart to brush off an
attempted tackle to touch down seven minutes later and Sykes again kicked the
goal.
The Reds came good late on and 10 minutes from time Karl Fitzpatrick knocked
on as he went to touch down.
Then three minutes later hooker Malcolm Alker went over the line from close
range and Anthony Stewart grabbed another after 78 minutes to take some of the
gloss of the Broncos display.
