Parry Gordon, who spent 18 years as a player with Warrington, has died suddenly at the age of 64.

The 5ft 6in scrum half signed for the club on his 16th birthday and made 543 appearances from 1963-81, a total surpassed only by Australian wing legend Brian Bevan.

Gordon, who scored 167 tries for the club, was a member of Alex Murphy's all-conquering 1973-74 team that won four trophies - the Captain Morgan, Players No6, Challenge Cup and Club Championship.

He was generally regarded as the best scrum half never to have gained a full cap for Great Britain. The nearest he came was as a non-playing substitute with the World Cup squad in Papua New Guinea in 1975.
