Hull KR coach Justin Morgan refused to get carried away after his side moved to within a point of engage Super League leaders St Helens with a 36-28 win over Warrington in the last match of the Magic Weekend in Edinburgh.
The Robins have taken full advantage of Saints' slide by winning five of their last six matches and will take over at the top if they win their next League game at Wigan on Friday week.
"I'm not too worried about that," said Morgan. "Our aim was to stick in the group of teams behind Saints.
"We know how close it is and how it can change. We're not getting carried away because there are a lot of games still to be played."
Warrington, buoyed by big wins over Bradford and Huddersfield, established a 16-6 lead thanks to tries from Chris Hicks, acting captain Michael Monaghan and Vinnie Anderson.
Rovers began the fightback just before half-time when scrum-half Michael Dobson went over to add to Shaun Briscoe's first-half try and further scores from skipper Michael Vella and second rower Clint Newton early in the second half put Morgan's men in control.
"We played a bit loose for my liking but we scored enough tries to win the game," said Morgan.
"We moved slightly away from our trusted philosophies in the first half. We spoke about that and about cutting out our errors at half-time. I certainly had faith that we could come out in the second half and turn it around.
"We were not at our best, we were okay. Some individuals won't be saying they've had their best games of the season but we certainly did grind things out as a team.
"It's a really good sign that when some players are below their best, others take up the reins."
Hicks added another try, his eighth in his last three matches, to give the Wolves renewed hope but Australian forward Ben Galea scored two late tries, taking his tally to six from his last three matches, to clinch a third successive win for the Robins.
"He was vintage Ben Galea today," said Morgan. "He played a couple of different roles for us."
Rovers lost loose forward Scott Murrell (calf) and Vella (knee) with knocks that make them doubtful for next Sunday's Challenge Cup tie against Sheffield Eagles.
Warrington were without skipper Adrian Morley (hand), stand-off Lee Briers (hamstring) and prop forward Paul Wood (back) and coach Tony Smith was encouraged by his team's performance in their absence.
"We were down a few experienced players but that's the way it goes," he said. "We gave an opportunity to a few young guys and they did pretty well.
"There were a lot of encouraging signs. We created a lot of good stuff. We needed to take another couple of opportunities.
"There was not much between the teams and it could have gone either way. Having said that, I thought Hull KR deserved it mainly due to their kicking game, which was better than ours in the second half.
"I'm not too discouraged. If my team keeps playing like that, we're going to win quite a few games between now and the end of the season."
