CATALANS DRAGONS:

Clint Greenshields: Worked himself to a standstill in defence but his handling error gifted Saints' decisive third try and the confidence ebbed away under the glare of the sun. 5.

Justin Murphy: Faultless in defence without getting much chance to demonstrate his attacking skill until grabbing an opportunist consolation try. 6.

John Wilson: Tackled well but largely ineffective in attack. 5.

Sebastien Raguin: Largely anonymous as a makeshift centre. 5.

Younes Khattabi: Shook off a groin strain to score his side's opening try but twice outdone by Ade Gardner. 6.

Adam Mogg: Had his moments in the first half playing out of position at stand-off but gradually faded from the scene. 6.

Stacey Jones: Worked non-stop throughout and his kicking game caused all sorts of problems for Saints in the opening half hour. 7.

Alex Chan: Produced a typically strong performance to set the standard up front. 7.

Luke Quigley: Enjoyed a lively first quarter before making way for Kane Bentley but unable to reproduce his heroics on his return. 6.

Jerome Guisset: Could not be faulted for effort but finished in a badly beaten pack. 5.

Cyril Gossard: Came up with some nice runs in the first half before, like most of his teams, fading from the picture. 5.

Jason Croker: Went close to scoring the first try and one of his side's best performers. 7.

Gregory Mounis: Largely ineffective in attack but tackled his heart out. 5.

Replacements:

David Ferriol: Made a break with his first touch of the ball but could not repeat the effort. 5.

Vincent Duport: Introduced into the action when the game was slipping away and unable to halt the slide. 5.

Kane Bentley: Unable to replicate Quigley's early efforts in a losing cause. 5.

Remi Casty: Tried hard to make an impact with his determined runs but came up against determined defence. 5.

ST HELENS:

Paul Wellens: Slipped on the lush surface in the opening stages but went on to enjoy a magnificent match, snapping up his 23rd try of the season and going on to share the man of the match award. 8.

Ade Gardner: Failed to take one chance in the first half but struck a crucial blow on the stroke of half-time and finished decisively for a second try just before the end. 6.

Matt Gidley: Early handling error but went on to have a big impact, as the ball always seemed to come his way. 7.

Willie Talau: A relatively quiet game and was withdrawn early in the second half. 5.

Francis Meli: Saw little of the ball but did what he had to do in defence. 5.

Leon Pryce: Had a major influence on his return from a three-match ban, helping to create three of his side's tries five tries and sharing the Lance Todd Trophy with Wellens. 8.

Sean Long: Unable to add to his hat-trick of man-of-the-match awards but still impressive with his tactical kicking and landed five of his six kicks at goal. 7.

Nick Fozzard: Produced his customary early fire to help quell the Dragons' fire. 7.

Keiron Cunningham: Led his side superbly on his seventh final appearance before making way for Roby. 7.

Jason Cayless: Typical hard-working display that helped grind down the Catalans pack into submission. 7.

Lee Gilmour: Quiet first half and then switched to centre but win will help erase the memory of his defeat with Wigan in 1998. 7.

Mike Bennett: Made some telling contributions in his two spells on the pitch. 7.

Jon Wilkin: Not his most memorable match and his wayward pass gifted the Dragons a try. 6.

Replacements:

James Graham: Made a big impact from the bench and went close to scoring a try. 8.

James Roby: Had a telling impact when introduced from the bench and has the distinction of scoring the first try at the new Wembley. 8.

Maurie Fa'asavalu: Came up with some powerful runs to take the wind out of the Catalans forwards. 7.

Paul Clough: Largely quiet match but was in the right place to score his try. 6.
