Fly-half Toby Flood was cleared of a broken toe after undergoing an X-ray in the wake of England's 16-15 defeat to South Africa, the RFU confirmed on Saturday evening.

But Flood reportedly left Twickenham with his right foot in a protective boot and he remains a doubt for England's final QBE autumn Test against New Zealand next Saturday.

Flood's injury will be reassessed by the England medics on Sunday evening, when a decision over the need for any further scans will be taken.

"It doesn't look great," Flood wrote in his column for the Mail On Sunday.

If Flood is sidelined next weekend, Owen Farrell and Gloucester fly-half Freddie Burns would be England's likely fly-half options.

Farrell replaced Flood after 47 minutes at Twickenham today while Burns, who kicked 19 points in Gloucester's 29-3 Aviva Premiership win against Sale today, has trained with England during the autumn.
