Fly-half Bernard Foley, full-back Kurtley Beale and centre Adam Ashley-Cooper also crossed for the Tahs in the bonus point win, with Foley kicking two penalties and all five conversions.

The score had been poised at 17-13 at half-time, with Marnitz Boshoff kicking two penalties and converting flanker Jaco Kriel's try for the Lions, but after the break the home side dominated as they raced to a convincing win.

The result moved the Waratahs from eighth place up to fourth overall and second in the Australian conference, while the Lions remain last in the South African conference and 14th overall.

Foley scored the opening try of the game in the eighth minute when the Waratahs mounted wave upon wave of attack, with the fly-half slipping through the Lions' defences and under the post.

He converted the score himself but soon the Lions were back on level terms when Kriel touched down after a rolling maul drove over the line, with Boshoff adding the extras.

The opposing fly-halves traded successful penalty kicks to put the sides level at 10-10 before Beale's converted try in the 24th minute edged the Tahs ahead.

Boshoff attempted a drop goal shortly after which rebounded off the crossbar but the Lions stand-off was successful with a penalty attempt in the 32nd minute.

After the break it was all the Waratahs, with Horne scoring two minutes after the restart before Ashley-Cooper crossed in the 49th.

Foley added the conversions and a 60th-minute penalty, with Horne crossing for his second try in stoppage time, with Foley again on target with the extras.
