The 21-year-old South Africa fly-half claimed a try, four penalties, a conversion and a drop-goal as the hosts stunned the in-form Australians.

Centre Willie Le Roux also crossed for the Cheetahs, who played the last eight minutes with 14 men after flanker Heinrich Brussow was sent to the sin bin.

Hooker Stephen Moore claimed a late try for the Brumbies as the visitors battled to stave off their fourth defeat of the campaign.

Goosen slotted a drop-goal two minutes from time though, to seal an unlikely result and give the Cheetahs heart of moving up the Super Rugby standings.

The Cheetahs secured just their third win of a testing season in 13 games so far this term, while the Brumbies were unable to build on their 16-9 home victory over the Sharks from last week.

Goosen fired over three successive penalties as the Cheetahs took a 9-0 lead in the first quarter.

The Brumbies had flanker Scott Fardy sin binned, but were able to hit back and steal an 11-9 half-time lead.

Scrum-half Nic White landed two penalties, either side of a try for centre Robbie Coleman.

Le Roux and Goosen claimed their tries after the restart though, as the hosts took control.

Goosen converted his own try and added another penalty on the hour-mark to leave the Cheetahs 24-11 to the good.

White responded with a penalty of his own to cut the hosts' lead to 10 points, and the Cheetahs came under huge pressure when Brussow was sin-binned.

Moore bundled home with White converting to put the squeeze on the home side, only for Goosen to drop the decisive goal with just two minutes on the clock.
