  • The Canes are trying desperately to get something from this match. Savea sets off on a run deep inside the Reds' 22. He oflfoads to Smith who is tackled to ground and at the resulting ruck Faifili Levave knocks on. At the resulting scrum, the ball comes out to Cooper who puts the ball into the stands when the hooter sounds to signal the end of the match! The Reds have clung on for this win but it could so easily have gone against them as the 'Canes came agonsingly close on several occasions. In the end though, the home side are deserved winners, especially for their effort duringthe first half.

  • Cooper throws a speculative pass in no-man's land behind his try-line! Conrad Smith dives over, thinking his scored but after the referee consults his TMO the effort is disallowed as Chris Smylie has committed a handling error in the build-up.

  • Julian Savea sets off on an attacking run inside the Reds' 22 before kicking ahead. Only a desperate effort by Nick Frisby prevents him from scoring.

  • The Reds are awarded after the Hurricanes pack are pinned for an early engagement at a scrum. The referee changes his decision to a penalty for the hosts when some of the 'Canes backchat the official because of his decision.

  • The Hurricanes attack with their backs deep inside the Reds' 22 but Andre Taylor knocks on close to the try-line which gives the hosts a reprieve!

  • The 'Canes attack round the front of the line-out with Motu Matu'u and Perenara trading passes. Perenara goes over the try-line but his effort is disallowed as Matu'u had a foot in touch in the build-up.

  • The game is loosening up as both sides try to secure the win. The last 10 minutes have been characterised by lots running but both sides are guilty of committing handling errors at vital moments.

  • Luke Morahan sets off through a gap but the referee rules that Cooper has obstructed one of the defenders and call the Reds speedster back.

  • PENALTY, HURRICANES, BARRETT! 18-12. Barrett narrows the gap to six points after Eddie Quirk is penalised for not using his arms during a tackle on James Broadhurst.

  • Cooper takes a big hit from Perenara and stays down! He gets up groggily and eventually rejoins the action.

  • The 'Canes look to strike back when Barrett puts a penalty kick into touch deep inside the Reds' 22.

  • CONVERSION, REDS, COOPER! 18-9. Cooper adds the extra two points to extend the hosts' lead!

  • TRY, REDS, SIMMONS! 16-9. The Reds do well to win the ball at the scrum and after Ben Tapuai is stopped just short of the line, Simmons reacts quickest and forces his way over to score his first ever Super Rugby try!

  • The Reds are on the attack close to the 'Canes' try-line. They take the ball through seven phases but lose possession when Rob Simmons knocks on.

  • The Reds are awarded a penalty close to the 'Canes' try-line and opt to run it. cooper throws a long pass to Shipperley but Barrett gets his hands to it! However, he fails to control the pass and fumbles!

  • The reds put in a good shove at a scrum. The back-pedalling Hurricanes scrum puts pressure on Brad Shields at number eight and he knocks on when he tries to pick up and go.

  • Quade Cooper gets the second half started. Jeremy Thrush gathers and sets up a ruck just outside his 22

  • The Hurricanes attack from a scrum deep inside the Reds' 22 but make little headway when Barrett and Bateman collide in midfield. The referee rules that they committed obstruction in the process and after a shrill blow on his whistle brings proceedings to a close. As the scoreline suggests, this has been an even contest. Both sides have played enterprisingly which sets up an appetising second half. Don't go away. We'll return within the next 10 minutes!
