Wigan v Huddersfield (+8)
This is a game that's hard to be too dogmatic about with both sides having questions to answer.
Look at Wigan. Had this fixture taken place at the back end of last season would you have fancied them to beat the Giants by more than eight without Pat Richards, Josh Charnley, Harrison Hansen, Lee Mossop and Sam Tomkins?
But then there's Huddersfield's preparation. They had a pre-season game washed out at Castleford and looked rusty for long periods against Hull KR last week. They would dearly love to go to Wigan and make a real statement of intent by winning on Friday in order to proof that they're no one-season wonders.
Wigan's preparations have been better - they were involved in a real high quality game at St Helens last week and have several new faces chomping at the bit to get a first league start under their belts at the DW Stadium.
They depart on Saturday for Australia and the World Club Challenge and know a win here would give them real momentum for that.
With home ground advantage, and despite the fact the Giants have a good record here, I'll go with Wigan to win and cover but it's far from a confident call. I prefer a more speculative wager on young Joe Burgess to score the game's first try. He has a real knack for crossing the whitewash and at 9/1 could get the year off to a flying start for the column.
