The 25-year-old, who joined the club five years ago when they entered Super League, was due to be out of contract at the end of the season but never contemplated leaving.

"I always wanted to stay here," said Lovegrove, who made his 100th appearance for the club earlier this season but is currently sidelined with a knee injury.

"It's great to get it all sorted out and the new contract takes me a long way towards my goal of being a one-club player."

Coach Craig Sandercock said: "Rhys is only 25 and his best years are ahead of him which is why we've given him three years.

"He is a consummate professional who prepares well every week and can play in a number of different roles. He's already done that for us this year and I'd expect him to rise to another level next season."
