Crack Away Jack thrilled Emma Lavelle in a gallop on Tuesday and is all set to make his eagerly-awaited chase debut at Sandown on Saturday.
The five-year-old finished a fine fourth in the Champion Hurdle last season and despite never having jumped a fence in public, he is already favourite with some bookmakers for the Arkle in March.
"He went really, really well. I see they are going to water out the good to firm patches on the chase track and with a little bit of rain around as well everything should be fine," said Lavelle.
"He's won at Sandown over hurdles. It's a trappy old track to start a novice at but in saying that, he's very nimble in his schooling at home and hopefully where we want to finish up is a trappy track as well (Cheltenham).
"It will take some jumping, but in fairness his schooling has been very good and hopefully he'll respect them a lot more than he ever did his hurdles.
"He was very casual over his hurdles at home so we always used to pop him over fences for that reason so he's pretty experienced at jumping them, he just has to do it in public now."
