Manyriverstocross made the perfect introduction to the National Hunt game with a flawless performance in the Sunshine Radio Maiden Hurdle at Chepstow.
Alan King's four-year-old, a winner at Glorious Goodwood this summer, jumped like an old hand for Robert Thornton on his way to an eight-length victory.
Given a lead into the straight by Lady Jinks, Thornton never had to move a muscle.
Despite Shalamiyr closing into second, an inch-perfect leap at the last by the 8-11 favourite sealed the win.
King said: "I haven't been this nervous for a long time but it was a joy to watch.
"Choc (Thornton) said that one or two of them were just running around in front of him over the first couple, but that didn't bother him in the slightest.
"He coped with the ground well so I'm thrilled with him.
"The plan was to keep wide on the bends because that ground has been used for the last three meetings, just to try and make things as easy as possible for him.
"I don't know what the next step is. We'll just go home and have a look but we just wanted today out of the way.
"We can take him anywhere and the ground won't worry me now, we'll just have a think a think about it," the Barbury Castle handler told At the Races.
Stan James introduced him at 16-1 for both the Supreme Novices' Hurdle and the Ballymore Properties Novices' Hurdle, while Victor Chandler went 20-1 for the former.
