Emma Lavelle has revealed her smart hurdler Bouggler returned with a slight tendon injury after his disappointing seasonal reappearance at Kempton earlier this week.
A winner of a Grade Two event at the Grand National meeting, he got within eight lengths of the brilliant Mikael D'Haguenet at Punchestown.
Well-fancied for a handicap on Monday, he trailed home eighth of the 13 runners.
"I don't want to scaremonger people at the minute, but he just came back with a bit of stiffening to his tendon," said Lavelle.
"He'll have it scanned on Friday. He's sound but they are not a matching pair at the minute which is what they normally are.
"It may be he just gave it a bang on the way round. Jack (Doyle) said he wasn't that keen to be leaving the ground after the first couple of flights and the ground rode quite quick on him.
"Whichever way you look at it he was disappointing but if something was hurting him, it would explain it a bit."
Lavelle had more positive news of Pause And Clause, third in the Coral Cup as a novice last season.
"I'm going to start him off in one of the valuable fixed brush handicap hurdles at Haydock and the plan will then be to go chasing," she said.
"If he's improved a little bit then he'd definitely be in with a big shout of winning a decent pot over hurdles.
"If that is possible then great, if not, we'll go chasing with him.
"If he was impressive and went on to do something special then chasing could be put on hold, but at this stage I think we'll probably end up going chasing."
