DOUBLE: Garswood and Cubanita.

Garswood should be given a chance to redeem himself as he tackles his optimum trip and ground in the Timeform Jury Stakes at Haydock.

The four-year-old proved a touch below the best over a mile last year and was not quite speedy enough to mix it with the top sprinters over six furlongs.

That said, he is still a more-than-useful animal over the intermediary distance of seven furlongs, as evidenced by his excellent run in the Jersey Stakes and his victory in the Lennox Stakes last term.

He signed off 2013 with a fine third behind superstar mare Moonlight Cloud at Longchamp and trainer Richard Fahey had hoped to eke out his stamina to a mile this year with another winter on his back.

However, he let down favourite-backers in the Sandown Mile where, despite being ridden with restraint early on, the last of the eight furlongs just proved beyond him again.

Dropping back for this Group Three event, also know as the John Of Gaunt, seems the obvious options and there are some nice targets later in the year which could be on Garswood's radar.

Cubanita was another who failed to stay when upped in trip to a mile and six furlongs at York but it is hard to go against her dropped back in distance for the Pinnacle Stakes.

She made great strides for Ralph Beckett towards the end of last season, chasing home subsequent Group One winner Tac De Boistron before signing off with a Group Three success at Newbury.

The Selkirk mare triumphed on heavy ground that day but showed that she does not need ground that deep when kicking off 2014 with victory on good ground in the John Porter at Newbury.

Racing off level weights, she fended off Noble Mission by a neck, with the runner-up subsequently doing wonders for the form with two Group Three wins before his Tattersalls Gold Cup triumph last weekend.

Cubanita was disappointing when beating only one rival home at York but the distance was clearly all wrong and this near 12-furlong trip will certainly play to her strengths.

Swan Song can prove an apt winner of the Winning Express Achilles Stakes in the week her dam, the great Lochsong, passed away.

Swan Song does not have the raw ability of her mother, but she has been progressing well and her recent Chester success seems to show that she is improving with age - just her as dam did.

Cap O'Rushes should feel the benefit of his recent reappearance run as he tackles the Stowe Family Law LLP Grand Cup at York.

The four-year-old posted an excellent effort in finishing fourth when used as a pacemaker in last year's Irish Derby, with a subsequent Group Two win at Goodwood marking him out as a promising type.

Quick ground was thought not to suit when subsequently well beaten in the Voltigeur and he was then again used as the hare for a better fancied stablemate in the St Leger.

Given his previous pacemaking roles, it was no surprise to see him take a good grip on his return at Ascot and he set a good gallop in a Listed heat there, teeing the race up for others before fading in the finish.

Cap O'Rushes should progress for that run and given the conditions of this race, he has upwards of 1lb in hand on all but one of his rivals.

Body And Soul found Group Two company beyond her at this track earlier in the month but should not be dismissed in the BetBright Trophy as she returns to handicap company.

Rye House was an unlucky loser on the Knavesmire last time but can gain compensation in the John Sunley Memorial Levy Board Handicap at Newmarket.

Returning from a year off the track, Sir Michael Stoute's charge kept on in the final furlong after finding his route blocked, but his fourth place behind Clever Cookie means he still remains on a very handy mark.

Shrewd handler Tom Hogan sends Califante across from Ireland for the Appletiser Fillies' Handicap at Chester and the hint should be taken as she has fallen right down the ratings to her lowest mark to date.

Azure Amour can make a winning start to her career in Newbury's Relyon Cleaning Newbury Maiden Auction Fillies' Stakes, while Anquetta should be the star attraction in the Severn Cider Handicap Chase at Stratford.
