DOUBLE: Economy and Lawmans Thunder.
Economy has clearly not been the most forward of horses but he can make up for lost time in the Betdaq - Sports Betting Exchange Handicap at Kempton on Wednesday.
By Dalakhani out of the Yorkshire Oaks winner Quiff, Economy was not bred to be a speedy juvenile and was limited to just one start at three, when he finished a highly-creditable second behind Buchanan at Newmarket last July.
Sir Michael Stoute's plans were derailed after that as Economy was not seen again until he lined up at this track last month in a 12-furlong maiden event. While Economy was made to work hard for his narrow victory, there was much to like about the way he did just enough to repel all challengers after appearing to idle a little in front.
The small margin of victory has limited the handicapper's assessment and an initial mark of 83 looks highly workable for a stable firing in the winners at the moment.
Lawmans Thunder is on quite a roll and can bring up his hat-trick in the Betdaq No Premium Charge Handicap.
The four-year-old did not show too much promise in a couple of outings last year when part of the Godolphin team but appears to have found his stride this term, winning two of three starts at Kempton.
Now in the care of Ismail Mohammed, he looked a fine prospect when winning on his handicap debut over a mile last month. Stepped up from seven furlongs and racing off a rating of 65, Lawmans Thunder ran out a two-and-three-quarter-length winner without really coming under strong pressure from his rider.
Turned out again 10 days later under a 6lb penalty, he again showed his rivals a clean pair of heels, quickening clear in style to win by four and a half lengths. His progress has not gone unnoticed, though, with a 12lb rise far from lenient, although that still only puts this lightly-raced gelding on a perch of 83.
Frangipanni made a highly satisfactory seasonal return when winning at Lingfield last month and can double up in the Citipost Ltd Fillies' Handicap back at the Surrey venue.
Out of the frame in three maiden runs, Frangipanni made quite a splash when switched to handicap level, staying on all the way to the line to eke out a neck victory. She was still some off the lead with a couple of furlongs to run but was flying at the finish and should surely be well equipped to deal with a 6lb rise.
Tatlisu finished a creditable third in the Bronze Cup at Ayr last year and can make a winning start at the Scottish course this year in the Hamilton Brothers And Kubota Handicap.
Beaten just three-quarters of a length in that ultra-competitive heat, Tatlisu failed to sign off on a high note when held in third again at Doncaster in October. Racing off a 2lb higher mark, it may well be his 10th start of the campaign just caught up with the three-year-old but refreshed after a winter break, he should be thereabouts in some of the better sprint handicaps again.
Newton Abbot stages the afternoon jumps action with Earls Quarter poised for success in the At The Races Sky 415 Handicap Hurdle, while Malibu Sun is taken to go well in the Ladbrokes Handicap Chase at Worcester's evening meeting.
