IMPERIAL COMMANDER has resumed light work following his sterling effort in the Argento Chase, with trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies targeting the Gold Cup with his veteran, although the Grand National is there as a back-up plan.

The gelding did everything right on that belated return at Cheltenham and gave his connections much to dream about for the remainder of the season.

He looked in tip-top order in his latest breeze up the Fibresand strip and as far as Aintree is concerned, he has the right profile to be very effective over the famous fences in April.

DOUBLE ROSS has done Twiston-Davies proud since having his attention turned back to hurdling after being beaten a couple of times over fences.

This strong front-runner looked as sharp as a pin in his latest stretch and will probably head to the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las after a possible spin at Sandown on Saturday if the hurdles track survives an inspection.

Twiston-Davies is Welsh and hankers a desire to win the recently-introduced race, the highlight of the season at the Dai Walters-owned course.

MAJOR MALARKEY failed to menace in a valuable long distance chase at Warwick but might have been suffering from the 'bounce' factor, having run a cracker on his Sandown return.

The level of his work suggests that is the case and he went well ahead of a weekend target.

TOUR DES CHAMPS is working great guns and looking like a horse that will put a recent hiccup behind him soon.

He fell last time out but has excelled in subsequent schooling.
