RYAN DELIGHTED AT JONATHAN ROMP

Kevin Ryan is in no rush to make any fancy plans for Our Jonathan despite his mightily impressive display in the Criterium De Maisons-Laffitte.

Winner of the Cornwallis Stakes at Ascot from an unpromising position on his latest outing, there were no such troubles for the juvenile this time.

Jamie Spencer found himself in front in the early stages of the Group Two contest but was joined by Ascot Glory after a couple of furlongs.

Despite racing on a much softer surface than which he had previously encountered, the Invincible Spirit colt still showed his now customary turn of foot to put two lengths between himself and the chasing pack.

Spencer allowed a look over his shoulder inside the final furlong and came home in splendid isolation from Ascot Glory.

The victory was a welcome boost for owner Dr Marwan Koukash after his Munsef finished down the field in the Melbourne Cup.

"It was a very good performance as the ground is very heavy and I was worried about it beforehand," said Ryan.

"I think his class is what's got him through but Jamie did brilliantly as well as he's taken the bull by the horns and let him stride on.

"He was relaxed before the race and settled well during it, which allowed him to quicken nicely at the end.

"The owner is down in Australia as he had a runner in the Melbourne Cup, so we will have to wait until he returns before we make any plans for him.

"He's a very good horse and has had a very good end to the year, so hopefully next season will sort itself out."

Earlier, Robert Cowell's Absolute Music had to settle for second behind impressive winner Lixirova in the Group Three Prix Miesque.

Spencer settled the Ripon scorer just off the pace in a perfect position and moved out to challenge a furlong from home.

But Lixirova, trained by David Smaga and ridden by Gregory Benoist, was always prominent and quickened clear to win comfortably.

The British raiders were out of luck in the Prix De Seine-et-Oise, won last year by Richard Fahey's Utmost Respect.

Fahey was back again with the consistent Knot In Wood while Chris Wall's Ascot winner Royal Rock and Ryan's Advanced were also in the line-up.

However, all three were unplaced as the home team produced a clean sweep with Criquette Head-Maarek's Dunkerque coming home clear of Salut L'Africain and Blue Cayenne.
